My favorite fudge shop

Well folks we all know Mackinac Island has fudge- lots of it!! In fact you can’t escape it because the smell is everywhere 🥰 for the longest time I would just get fudge here and there (and truly it’s all good) but until we did the fun game one year I never would have discovered my personal favorite shop. It was a few blog posts back on how to find your own. Drumroll please. . . . . . .

Joann’s Fudge. Yes this is my place. I unexpectedly fell in love with this cozy family owned business.

Here’s the backstory on Joann’s as shared on their website:

Joan and Frank Nephew opened the first Joann’s Fudge Store on Mackinac Island in 1969 in a building located next to the old McNally Cottage. One year later, a second Joann’s Fudge Store was opened in a historic building in the center of Mackinac Island’s downtown and in 1980 a third location was added in Mackinaw City.

Today, Joann’s Fudge is a third generation family business that continues Joan and Frank’s commitment to providing high quality products. We pride ourselves on the smooth and creamy texture of our fudge. To obtain our world famous taste, our fudge is slowly cooked in traditional copper kettles over a gas flame. Once the desired temperature is reached, the mixture is poured onto marble slabs for a cooling period and then hand paddled into loaves. We only use fresh heavy cream and butter in every batch of fudge and pure ground cocoa beans in all our chocolate flavors. Joann’s Fudge does not contain any preservatives or powdered ingredients.

Here are the flavors to chose from: Butterfinger, butter pecan , chocolate, chocolate cherry, chocolate cookie crunch, chocolate peanut butter, chocolate pecan, chocolate toffee, chocolate turtle, chocolate walnut, double dark chocolate, double dark chocolate espresso, double dark chocolate cherry walnut, double dark chocolate mint, double dark chocolate pecan, double dark chocolate salted caramel, German Chocolate, Maple, Maple Walnut, Peanut Butter, Penuche Pecan, Raspberry Truffle, Rocky Road, Vanilla, Vanilla Pecan, Vanilla Salted Caramel.

Ok so here is what I do. When I get to the island – I go get 1slice of butterfinger and chocolate cookie crunch. I nibble- along with anyone I am with-during my visit. When I leave I do the 5 slice option for 33.50. This is a great deal. There are of course other options but I prefer the biggest one (to freeze some)

Carmel corn, peanut brittle , salt water taffy and ice cream is offered as well. The fudge like other shops is prepared in front of you. Also if you are lucky they will hand you a warm sample!!

I honestly can’t explain why I prefer this fudge the most. It just tastes so good and fresh. Double dark chocolate, butterfinger, chocolate cookie crunch, chocolate and maple nut are my favorite.

That sell fudge year round. Offer specials with every holiday. When you follow them on social media a lot of fun giveaways are offered.

Another thing I love is the interior of the shops. It’s not what you traditionally might think. It is decked in deep walnut shelves and wallpaper. I think I always envision Willy Wonka style – which is kinda funny.

I of course don’t want to say the other fudge shops aren’t fantastic because they are- I just have fallen in love with Joann’s!! So give it a try. I don’t think you can ever go wrong with Fudge!!!
